The Power Of Mentors

Wow only a couple weeks till Christmas, where has the year gone?

Well as the year is starting to wind down, smart people are focusing on their goals and strategies for their business for the New Year. I like to use the holiday season to reflect on the year that has been and plan for my successful year that lies ahead.

I have been adding to my resources page this week ensuring that when I find a product or service that will make your life easier in 2009, that I tell you about it on my website. This week I am focusing on the importance of mentors to the success of any business whether it be offline or online.

Everyone should have someone that they either aspire to become, or someone that they look to for inspiration, guidance and lessons to be learnt.

Some of the people who inspire me are:


Alexandria Brown - ezine queen

Armand Morin - internet marketing genius

Matt & Amanda Clarkson - ebay gurus

Steve Brossman - amazing marketer & fortunately for me my husband

Derek Gehl - another brilliant internet marketer

Most of these people (accept for my husband) are in the same industry as myself but who have taken their business to a level of success that I strive to achieve in my own business and also strive for my students to achieve in their own online businesses.

Some people have asked me "But Pam aren't these people your competitors?" "Why are you promoting other people who are in the same business as you?".

Well they are very good and very valid questions and my answer, mindset and beliefs are:

• Competitors can be some of the best joint venture partners for your business
• There is enough in cyberspace for everyone - only people with a 'lack' or 'scarcity' mindset fear their competitors
• People like to learn from different people - just because my mentors are selling similar products, coaching modules or services to me does not mean that everyone wants them as their mentor
• People will learn from the mentor that they resonate with and if that is me fantastic, if it is one of my mentors, great! I become an affiliate of theirs (win/win)
  

So I promote my competitor's products and businesses because they benefit my customers. If I believe that any of my mentors can assist my customers well then I will give them their details.

This is the power of joint ventures or affiliate marketing. In businesses there are many win/win strategies out there for people who are targeting the same niches. You just have to be open to the opportunities and think about ways of building relationships that can work for both parties.

Is it in competition with my video series? - Probably, but Armand teaches at a level that I think is the next step up from the 'newbies' that I teach. I help peope who really are 'green' when it comes to getting started online and I help them to get to a level where they can benefit from Armand's strategies.

I also want to have an option for my customers, so that when they are ready to go to the next level of marketing strategies, they are learning from the people I use as my mentors. That way they are learning from the best in the industry for the stage they are at in their business.
