The Power Of Twitter

Twitter....What the heck is Twitter?
Okay up until about 7 days ago I would have to have said 'I don't know'. That is right, all I knew about this twitter thing was that it was some sort of social marketing medium that everyone was joining.

Then I got an email from one of my mentors and this is what he told me....

If you are not using Twitter you are crazy
Then he went on to explain why....

These days people are really time poor, but this generation love to social network on topics from internet marketing to music to car racing to surfing. It connects people all around the world who have a common interest. It is a great way to make new friends without being sold to.

Okay so your asking...I do not have time for idle chit chat
Well that is where you are being very narrow focussed in the power of these networks.

These social networking websites is not about marketing your business, or selling stuff it is about building relationships, helping other people, recommending ideas and solutions, passing on knowledge all for free because you can.

And you know what, what goes around comes around. You help someone out online because you just want to, then one day when you need a hand there will be someone out there in these social mediums that will help you. Just because they can and they want to.

It is about getting back to basics....none of this what is in it for me mentality that has taken over the world. Just meet people, have a chat, ask a few questions if you need help and perhaps when it comes to launching your new product or new business, they just might help you promote it.

Not because there is something in it for them. Because they like you, they want to help you to succeed and because they have a relationship with you.

That is the POWER of TWITTER.....Ability to build RELATIONSHIPS with likeminded people all around the world and it is FANTASTIC!

Now, let me give you an example of how wonderful twitter is.
I joined only 7 days ago with absolutely no idea what I was doing ( still very green but learning every day cause I keep asking questions). And this is what has happened:

• I have 140 followers ( that is pretty low but I am excited)
• Some of the world's best internet marketers are now following my tweets ( who would have thought that I could chat with Guru's like Stephen Pierce, John Reese, Perry Belcher) all on twitter
• I meeting people all around the world who can teach me stuff and help me learn more

It is really, really cool.

But be careful, some people like to spam on there and impersonate people. I got a tweet from a guy pretending to be Frank Kern. I thought it was really him but it turned out it was some idiot trying to be funny and impersonate him. I think he has since been removed. Moral of the story 'don't mess with the big guys'.

So today I am highly recommending to you that you take the time to set up a Twitter account it is free. And start meeting people who may be interested in your niche so that you can start building your own friendships and relationships around the world online.
